Kirk Curnutt's novel Breathing Out the Ghost is a finalist in the Mystery/Suspense category. In December 2007, Curnutt's novel, a psychological thriller with noir overtones, was also chosen as ForeWord Magazine's book club selection. RCP published Curnutt's collection of short stories, Baby, Let's Make a Baby in 2003. He is the Chair of the English department at Troy University Montgomery.
Murder Creek: The "Unfortunate Incident" of Annie Jean Barnes by Joe Formichella is a finalist in the True Crime category. The book is a reexamination of mysterious death in 1966 Brewton, Alabama, which left a woman's family still seeking answers more than 40 years later. Formichella has recently authored an "as told to" biography of college basketball coaching legend Ben Jobe, entitled Staying Ahead of the Posse: The Ben Jobe Story. It will be released by River City Publishing in April 2008.
Robert S. Kahn's The Violinist is the story of a conflicted, modern day composer who, after long struggle, finds sudden celebrity from his new form of music: countertonality. It is a finalist in the General Fiction category. Kahn's book is a gripping character study of a man struggling to keep faith and hope in a world he barely understands.
ForeWord Magazine chose 658 finalists from more than 1,600 entries in 61 categories. The winners will be announced at Book Expo America in Los Angeles this May.
